Excel can help teachers in a variety of subjects, but I think as an english teacher or history teacher I'd be more inclined to use it as an evaluation tool. By recording grades on Excel I can see how my students are progressing and the overall trend that students are gearing towards in the curriculum. Since excel is also a great numerical organizing tool, a history teacher would be able to compile dates and years and organize them by increasing value to create a detailed timeline for students to use about a certain period in history. Creating surveys can help teachers give the students a voice in their learning, for example, a teacher could create feedback surveys that they can use to modify future curricula .
My favorite blog posts to read were about the technology in the COE Tech Sandbox. By far my favorite class in the course, using the sandbox helped me see first hand how sophisticated technology like smartboards and virtual reality can really improve a student's education, if used correctly. Reading about who thought which technology was their favorite was interesting because I saw that no one was overwhelmingly talking about just one technology, overall all of the different technologies were included, which made me realize that each educational technology has a lot of potential to improve student learning. It is up to the teacher, however, to use the technology to benefit the students. All technology is going to have its benefits, however there can be drawbacks if the teacher doesn't use them affectively.
A technology I want to dive into the future is multimedia education. Specifically how students can use their devices like a smartphone or tablet to engage with a physical text. There have been technologies already created that allow students to do this such as QR codes. However I have seen technologies that allow you to place your phone over corresponding photos and having a video pop up through some sort of link embedded within the same photo, creating sort of a "live image" effect. This could help students as they are engaging with texts not just by looking and reading but by hearing and other senses. I would go about this by researching different apps that allow this feature on handheld devices.
