I found that the use of twitter has been very helpful in having discussions with the educational technology community. I'm getting the hang of checking on it and I've following more ed tech accounts each time I go on. The hashtag is super helpful in finding other accounts and relevant tweets.
The digital divide is a very unfortunate thing for a lot of people especially growing kids who seek a better education. Students all over America don't have access to computers, the Internet and its resources. The digital divide is caused by a lack of ability to have internet access in a household, students that are affected by this are at a huge disadvantage. As a teacher I will make sure all of my students have access to a computer at school if they are not able to at home, if I am unable to provide that for them, then I will have to be conscious about the disadvantage those students have over other students. I will gear lessons towards that sensitivity. As an aspiring high school US history teacher (preferably 11th and 12th grade) I plan on utilizing the internet a lot in search of academic articles, primary resources, and videos. There are a lot of history resources online along with concept-mapping tools that I can use.
